A civic, cultural, sustainable and innovative project...

Project and philosophy

La Tricoterie: "Link Factory"

La Tricoterie wants to be a "Link Factory": a meeting place where various disciplines and audiences can meet, in a spirit of exchange and emulation.

That is why our cultural programme (concerts, plays, exhibits ...) is combined with a "civic" programme (debates, conferences, intergenerational workshops, philosophy café ...). We also offer our spaces for rent for professional of private events.

When it comes to financing, La Tricoterie adopted an innovative economic model, based on the principle of "communicating vessels", with a combination of profitable and non-profitable events. We alternate private or corporate events with socio-cultural activities, funded both by our own means and occasional public subsidies.

La Tricoterie was founded both as a cooperative (Théodore SCRL) and a non-profit organisation (La Tricoterie asbl). It offers a participatory model for all potential "tricoteurs" who wish to partake in this adventure with us in order to realise a true civic, sustainable investment (not just patronage or sponsoring).

Values and Commitment

A sustainable space for events

The "sustainable" aspect of our approach is simple: we want to apply some common sense and thought in the organisation of our events and those of our partners/clients.

First of all, this happens through sustainable catering: we offer organic, seasonal, fair trade and/or local drinks and food at our bar, during the brunch, through our catering service or that of our partners.

Furthermore, we try to apply sustainable practices at every level of our events: thinking about mobility and the ecological impact of our events, waste management, and cleaning with eco-friendly products.

A poetic take on life

Moreover we would like to promote what Edgar Morin calls a "poetic" relation to the world, enabling us, according to him, to truly live.

Taking the time to talk to each other (exchanging, debating), to eat (slow food, togetherness), to discover new cultures and meet people, to participate in creative or philosophical workshops – in short, a whole set of practices that don’t lead to material growth but contribute to the "personal growth" of individuals instead.

Arts take up a central space in our project, adding to this concept of "free necessity".

Rediscovering meaning

Like many other civic movements, born in reaction to the present-day ultra-liberalism, the blind race towards profit and a hyper-individualised social model, we felt we had to find back our meaning and to contribute to changing the world in which we are living in. In line with the movement of the "outraged youth", but also in the broader frame of "sustainable development", we want to find solutions, to become "builders" or "tricoteurs" (knitters) of a new society.

We believe that this requires to going back to our sources by empowering citizens and companies and by adopting a more "conscious" lifestyle in which we would be more aware of everything that goes on around us.

Tricoteurs and Partners

Invest in an innovative, civic, socio-cultural project.

La Tricoterie is a wonderful human adventure that took flight thanks to citizens from different backgrounds who found each other in our values and activities.

Thanks to our legal form (a cooperative) we can build this project in a collective way, with capital that is enriched by the contributions of new partners who wish to invest in a civic, sustainable project.

But first of all being a "tricoteur" means to be willing to endorse a mindset of meeting and being interested in others, in short, to make the "Link Factory" possible.

La Tricoterie is indeed a participative project in which everybody is invited to take part, with a level of commitment they can freely choose. Three types of contribution are possible: you can either be a partner, a member, or simply part of our audience.

Become a partner

La Tricoterie is managed by both a non-profit organisation and a cooperative.

The latter has opened its capital to contributors who believe in the project and who wish to invest in a responsible, civic project. We are not talking about patronage or sponsoring; your money will be converted in "shares" with an objective value.

The capital increase will allow us to further develop the project and to continue the renovation of the building.

There is still more than 500 m² for which we have already drawn up architectural plans. Moreover, a new partner has suggested a new project: the creation of a hanging garden in our courtyard, covering an auditorium with 130 seats and specific acoustics for chamber music.

Little by little we put together "budgetary envelopes" that allow us to progress with the renovation of the building. The partners’ money is spent in its entirety on the building, so that the real estate value rises together with the capital (thanks to cautious, sustainable management).

A large number of partners have already joined us and we are still hoping to enlarge our network. You can already participate for less than 200 euros!

Do you have a company, a brand or a project, and would like to team up with La Tricoterie?

If you can identify yourself with our project and values, we can offer you some visibility in exchange of financial contributions (or equipment), or we can develop other types of "win win" partnerships.

We use various communication channels (media, web, flyers, posters ...), we are very active on social networks and we can collaborate with you on certain occasional actions. Moreover, visibility on our website can also be considered. We attract nearly 40.000 visitors per year.

Other than that, our sponsors are entitled to discounted rates for the use of our spaces.

The corporate responsibility of companies is also an important issue for us. La Tricoterie is working on a sustainable civic movement. Companies are invited to endorse this movement and to take part in our adventure.

For all matters concerning the rental of our spaces, the quotation, or if you would like to visit our premises or to organise an event, please contact us at the following email address: info(at)tricoterie.be
